We encourage membership At St. JOhn’s because we believe that it fosters Christian discipleship and reflects the membership we share in the Body of Christ. We know that the process of deciding to become a member is a serious one. The three steps toward membership are listed below.
STEP 1: Take Foundations
Foundations explores three crucial questions for every Christian: What do we believe? How do I pray? How do I live? Over twelve sessions, it draws on the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Ten Commandments to guide us and ground our faith. Foundations is open to anyone desiring to grow in their faith, even if they do not necessarily intend to become members of St. John’s. It is, however, a prerequisite for membership, as well as baptism, parents of infants being baptized, marriage, confirmation, reaffirmation of one’s Christian faith, and certain leadership positions at St. John’s. This class is offered in the fall and spring. If you're interested in registering for the next class, please contact Pastor Josh.
STEP 2: MEET WITH A PASTOR
After you have completed Foundations, you can schedule a one-on-one meeting with one of the pastors. This is simply a time for us to get to know you and hear more about your understanding of the gospel and experience of coming to know and follow the Lord.
Please note that in order to be a member of St. John’s, you must have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you have not yet been baptized, but would like to be, please let us know by emailing Pastor Josh or Pastor Mark.
STEP 3: SIGN THE MEMBERSHIP COVENANT
The final step in becoming a member of St. John’s is being confirmed and signing the membership covenant. This represents your commitment to living out the Christian faith in community with others at St. John’s, and your investment in the life of our church. You will be added to the member directory once we have a copy of your signed covenant. Confirmation happens when one of our bishops are available to visit St. John’s, typically once or twice a year.
